RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together . . .

Ole Early Bird
April 1994 - Sept. 2004
Our hearts are with the Wilson Family on their loss of Birdie.
"Somehow, the house seems to be empty of her shy little presence now.
EekaWin and JoKoMo still seem to be watching for her".

Edie (Sum Hope)
April 1995 - November 2004

Edie with Mom, Diane, receiving the Companion Pet of the Year award

Edie was far more than just a pet to her family. She was the constant reassuring factor in her family's lives when a devastating crisis hit. She lived up to her racing name by giving her family hope. She was always there to lend an ear when her Mom was trying to figure out just what to do next and was always willing to try to take the burdens away with her loving personality. Edie was named The Companion Pet of the Year in 2003 by the El Paso Veterinary Society for all she did for her family. She gave a lot more than "Sum Hope"; she gave her love, patience, companionship and understanding. Edie will be forever remembered by Jim, Diane and all of us that had the privilege of knowing her.

Traveler
August 1991 - November 2004

Trav earned the name Traveling Man when he was found running along the side of the interstate. After washing the oil, grease and filth off, we found a beautiful brindle boy who just wanted to be loved. He got just what he wanted when he went home with Charlene and Otto. He had a wonderful life for almost seven years with his family until he went to the Rainbow Bridge at the age of 13. Our hearts break at the loss of this special guy.

Diaz
(Coldwater Diaz) April 1996 - April 2005

Diaz was much cherished and love by Amelia and John for most of his life. His presence will be so missed by all of us. It takes courage and love to let go of one that has been such a huge part of your life for so long.

Adalaid
(Lucy)
February 1997 - April 2005
Lucy was very much a part of the Coffman's family for over six years. Her presence is so missed by each and everyone of us.

Pass
(Tough To Pass)
July 1994 - May 2005

Pass was one of those foster dogs that Amy just could not let go of. Pass helped dozens of newly retired Greyhounds learn how to be couch potatoes and loved every minute of it. We share the grief with her family. But at the same time, we celebrate her life. She is missed so very much by all of us but her spirit will live on forever in our hearts.

"Mister" Cooper
August 1995 - May 2005

Our Godsend from Pat who connected us with Cooper's parents, John and Mary Snider. Unable to take him overseas when transferred, they graciously ceded him to us in what became a four year love affair. A large, lean, yet muscular lad with a deeply sensitive and gentle side, he was our days and our knight. Sir Cooper!

Brass
March 1993 - July 2005

We cannot begin to say how much happiness and love Brass brought into our lives. He was a great friend to those who just met him. A loving family member who always wanted to be with you, and a wonderful teacher for those who had never met a Greyhound before. He was our first Grey and our baby. He will be forever missed and forever loved.

Orphan Annie
November 21, 2005

Years ago, when I got a call from Animal Control that they had picked up a female Greyhound, out the door I went. On the drive to the facility, I kept thinking what a waste of time. I had been to Animal Control to see "Greyhounds" that were any thing but a Greyhound. As I went to the kennel run she was in, there standing in her water bucket was a very young, skinny, tick infested brindle Greyhound wagging her tail at me. I bent down at her gate and said, "So, you are really a Greyhound. I guess, I better see about getting you out of jail."

At the time. our local Animal Control did not work well with adoption groups. They wanted a small fortune to spring this little girl. Our group could not afford the fees and then have all the vet work done that she would need, not to mention the fear of her coming down with kennel cough among other things.

I went next door to the Humane Society and talked with the directer. She made one phone call to the directer of Animal Control and stated she wanted the Greyhound for the upcoming televised annual Adopt-A-Thon. That was all it took. The next weekend, we were at the TV station waiting to pick up this darling girl after her TV debut.

Standing in the parking lot picking dozens of ticks off of her, we realized we had to call her something. She was not tattooed; so, unidentifiable. The obvious was Orphan Annie. She seemed agreeable to being called Annie. So, Annie she became. And yes, she did come down with a bad case of kennel cough. She also became known as our "fruit bat". With her thin, fine face and ears that stood straight up, she really did look like a fruit bat.

After weeks of treating her for kennel cough, putting on weight, and growing into a gorgeous, outgoing Greyhound, Annie never outgrew her love to stand in a water bowl. She was adopted into what we thought was her forever home. After a few years, due to the declining health of one of her family members, she was returned to us. Annie had grown and filled out and still loved to stand in her water bowl.

The best thing to happen to Annie was when Bob and Mary decided they wanted to foster. They already had two Greyhounds, but after a very short time, they had three. Annie really did have her forever home now, and still loved to stand in her water bowl.

After just three short years with Bob and Mary, Annie went to the Rainbow Bridge. Those three years were full of love, happiness, lots of treats and a big water bowl. Annie could not have asked for a better family.

Now, Annie has joined her housemate, Cooper, at the bridge, undoubtedly still standing in her water bowl and wagging her tail.

Our hearts are with Bob and Mary and for the water bowl that no longer has Annie standing in it. We should celebrate the time Annie was with us all, but still we mourn her passing.

Cindy Lou (Ashurst)

Cindy Lou was one of those foster dogs that never left. Stephanie and Joe fell head over heals in love with this beautiful little girl at first sight. Cindy Lou's sweet, tender nature will be missed by so many of us. Our hearts go out to her family that loved her so much.

1993 - 2006
